The NY-NRG Quartet is Gregor Huebner’s primary New York–based ensemble, bringing together four of the city’s most accomplished jazz musicians. Huebner recently received a Chamber Music America New Jazz Works grant in recognition of his innovative artistic vision.
Huebner’s longstanding musical relationships with pianist Luis Perdomo and bassist Hans Glawischnig began during their studies at the Manhattan School of Music. He also performed alongside drummer Nasheet Waits in pianist Richie Beirach’s quartet, making this ensemble the culmination of years of shared musical experience.
For the NY-NRG Quartet, Huebner has composed an original body of work that blends the energy of post-bop and Latin jazz with the adventurous improvisational spirit of the 1970s. The music showcases both intricate compositions and fearless collective interplay.
The quartet’s lineup speaks for itself. Pianist Luis Perdomo, a longtime collaborator of Ravi Coltrane and Miguel Zenón, is one of today’s leading voices in modern jazz piano. Bassist Hans Glawischnig, also known for his work with Miguel Zenón ,Chick Corea’s band and the German HR Big Band, brings extraordinary depth and versatility. Drummer Nasheet Waits has established himself as one of the most influential drummers of his generation through collaborations with many of jazz’s foremost artists.
At the heart of the project is Huebner’s artistic mission: to redefine the role of the jazz violin and move it beyond long-standing stereotypes, placing it firmly at the center of contemporary creative jazz.
