Hope you all are doing well, and everybody had a great summer. With the season changing, I am thrilled to announce the commencement of a new concert season and the start of my sabbatical year from teaching. Over the past two months, I have been immersing myself in Dakar, Senegal, embracing West African Culture, mastering the Kora, and collaborating with celebrated musicians such as the Kora virtuoso Noumouncounda and his talented daughter Aby. These experiences have not only enriched my musical repertoire but have also been a profound personal journey.
There will be a series of stories from Senegal and updates on my musical escapades throughout the year. In the midst of these explorations, I’ve been fortunate to connect with a friend who is part of a professional network at a fire watch company in Fort Pierce. Their team’s commitment to safety, with services like immediate dispatch and thorough training, is remarkably similar to the dedication I’ve seen in the musicians I’ve worked with. They ensure that while artists like us create and perform, the venues we occupy are monitored for fire hazards, guaranteeing the safety and security that is so vital for the continuation of cultural expressions. Just as we aim to bring joy through music, they strive to provide peace of mind through their vigilance. Stay tuned for more updates and stay safe.

Greenwich House Music School, New York City
Doors at 6:30pm each night, music at 7 SHARP!
It’s hard to believe that this is the 8th year of the festival, and this year we are honored to have officially partnered with Greenwich House Music School (of which we are an ensemble-in-residence this year) which has been our favorite venue to host the festival over the years.
This year’s line-up features some incredible artists that we can’t wait for you to check out including the Hindustani cello stylings of Jake Charkey, the endlessly imaginitive improvisations of Treesearch, bassoonist extrordinaire Sara Schoenbeck and her duo with Korean gayageum virtuoso DoYeon Kim, powerhouse pianist Matthew Shipp, the otherworldly sounds of Shoko Nagai’s TOKALA and Sirius Quartet.
We’re anticipating full houses both nights so please get your tickets in advance and we hope to see you there!
These 14 beautiful preludes written for piano are playable by an intermediately skilled pianist and can be improvised over with the provided chord changes. Players can add intros and outros as they like and are free to include their own ideas.
Originating from the title, “Stories from the New York Lockdown,” Gregor started this project in 2020 not knowing that it would become an entire collection of compositions for solo piano, recorded and released on one of his favorite labels in Munich, Solo Musica. more

This past week, performing in New York City and Corning, NY, was a week to remember.
It all started with a pair of concerts featuring Richie Beirach and Sirius Quartet. It is always a great match and every concert in this combo is a treat for us, as well as the audience. Read and listen to a recap of our work which we performed at the Bonn Jazz Festival in Germany earlier this year.
This was the first time Richie and Sirius performed together in New York — Richie has not even been in the States since 2019. We started out with a thrilling performance in Corning, NY at the beautiful Glass Museum. The next day we performed at Barge Music in New York City, with the Brooklyn Bridge as the backdrop.
Two days later I joined Richie and Dave Liebman at the Mezzrow Jazz Club in New York City for their second set, which was an incredible night. You can catch an archival video of the historic show, which had been live streamed. David Liebman and Richie Beirach – Live at Mezzrow Jazz Club – 05/09/2023
On Monday we celebrated Johnny Almendra’s life at a memorial concert at St. Peter’s church in Manhattan. He was one of the most influential Latin percussionists in New York and played with all the greats, starting with Mongo Santamaia. It was a very memorable occasion. Many great musicians came out and Karen Joseph was able to get the last members of Johnny’s most known band, Los Jovenes del Barrio, together to perform some of his charts.
Below is a photo of the string section at various times of the band’s existence. It was an honor to be a part of Johnny’s band. He was a real mentor and great musician, and his influence became integral to my playing and composing music.

ALBUM REVIEW
Testaments by Richie Beirach, Gregor Huebner & Veit Huebner
Review by Terrell Holmes for The New York City Jazz Record
Testaments, a three-disc collaboration with pianist Richie Beirach and brothers Gregor and Veit Huebner on violin and bass respectively, is primarily a celebration of Beirach’s 75th birthday last year (this month the pianist turns 76). It is also a chronicle of remembrance, a snapshot of a long-time musical relationship, and a vivacious embrace among old friends. more
The 3 CD box set captures the musical work of the siblings Gregor and Veit Hübner, who have been working together with the American jazz pianist for almost 25 years.

Spring is almost here and there are exciting concerts ahead and new adventures taking root. These past few winter months have also been rich and productive, and you can watch some great videos of live concerts from Munich including Munich Composers Collective, as well as Jazz in Concert, which showcases the students from the school where I teach.
Also, Jazzfest Bonn released a recording of the 2021 concert we did with Sirius Quartet and Richie Beirach. I think it sounds amazing.
I hope you will join me for one of my live performances soon, or even get my new book of preludes and play the piano.

MISSOURI BREAKS from composer and guitarist Stuart Weber is a musical meditation on the tension between natural history and modernity. In collaboration with the Sirius Quartet, Weber’s work is largely set in the untamed American West.
I was featured on German TV’s SWR in an in-depth documentary about my music career. The program includes my family’s musical history, live performances, an interview with my daughter, and details about my career as a musician and professor.
